The Managing Attorney plays an essential role in leading, mentoring, and developing a team of personal injury attorneys while working closely with firm leadership to ensure operational excellence. This role is an executive leadership position, balancing strategic oversight with hands-on legal guidance. This role is part of a team of attorneys at the firm with hands-on management of personal injury cases including but not limited to medical malpractice, auto accidents, and premise liability for legal proceedings. This role will lead and provide oversight for a staff attorneys and legal staff.
Manage and lead a team of attorneys in personal injury law including but not limited to the scope of: Mass Torts, Litigation, Workers’ Compensation, and Pre-Litigation cases. Ensuring legal accuracy, compliance, efficiency, and excellent client service across departments.
- Leadership & Strategy: Lead the team of attorneys. Collaborate on strategic initiatives to enhance firm performance and profitability.
- People & Talent Management: recruit, mentor, evaluate, and retain a collaborative, high-performing legal team fostering a culture of professional growth and development.
- Legal Oversight: Manage complex personal injury cases, while providing strategic guidance on case management, legal strategy, and best practices to ensure successful outcomes for clients.
- Firm Collaboration: Work closely with Owners, Shareholders, and Business Managers to align legal operations with overall firm goals.
- Process Optimization: Identify inefficiencies and implement best practices to enhance workflow, productivity, and case outcomes.
- Financial Management: understand the firm's financial well-being, including budgeting, managing expenses, setting performance bonuses, and client billing.
- Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure adherence to ethical, legal, and professional standards while mitigating potential risks.
- Client Advocacy & Community Relations: Uphold the firm’s mission of delivering exceptional legal representation and client experience. Including, representing the firm externally in a professional manner, ensuring the firm's brand and reputation are upheld while cultivating relationships with clients and community partners
- Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently
- Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills
- Must be able to exercise extensive independent judgment to make decisions in carrying out assignments that have substantial impact on the department
- Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal, negotiations, and customer service skills. Bilingual preferred.

- Must be able to efficiently and effectively utilize a CMS (Client Management System)
- Proven utilization of technology, including computers, databases, portals, and software, needed to successfully perform the job.
- Exhibits a professional and courteous demeanor to team members and the public with demonstrated compassion and empathy for clients, with the ability to de-escalate when needed .
- Ability to provide negotiation strategies, conduct negotiations, and teach others on negotiations.
- Strong understanding of law firm operations, business strategy, and efficiency improvements.
- High level of professionalism and ethical behavior.
- Juris Doctor(JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Active membership in the State Bar of North Carolina with good standing.
- Must have at least 15 years of experience as a practicing attorney, with a minimum of 10 years in plaintiff-side litigation experience, e.g. Personal Injury, Employment, Consumer Protection, etc.
- Must possess at least 5 years of experience leading and mentoring a team within a legal setting.
- Proven track record of representing clients in court.
